The Liver Flush
Note: The most optimal time to cleanse is in the seasons of Spring and Fall, as your body is not having to deal with extreme weather conditions. Take your individual and unique health history into consideration, along with your body constitution when deciding whether or not to embark upon a cleanse.
To Begin your cleanse, take three days to prepare your body and your mind for the experience. Incorporate a diet of whole foods, the grains; quinoa, buckwheat and corn, lots of hearty, leafy greens, and copious amounts of liquids (my favorite bevy choices are listed below). Lighter proteins are recommended, though eggs and fish are ok. In fact incorporate salmon or trout into at least one of your weekly meals.
On the evening before your Flush begins, Decoct (boil roots for 15-20 minutes, starting with a quart and a half of water) the following formula. This is your Liver supporting herb tea:
Burdock
Dandelion Equal Parts(1 part = ¼ cup)
Licorice
SassafrasLet this tea sit over night, covered.
On the day you plan to begin your Liver Flush, upon rising, drink a glass of warm water. After 15-30 minutes, mix the juice of one lemon, or two limes (freshly squeezed), to one clove crushed garlic, 2 Tablespoons of High Quality Olive Oil, and four oz of spring or distilled water. Blend this mixture (Ideally in the blender), and slowly sip it down. Not too slowly, as it can be a little unpleasant, though you don’t want to chug it.
Follow this (drinking salad dressing like experience) with the Liver Supporting Herb Tea, which you may want to sip over the course of the next couple of hours. Be sure to wait at least one hour before eating anything solid.
Through out the day, eat greens in each of your meals; preferably kale, a salad of romaine lettuce, carrots, and celery with lemon and olive oil over it.
*This is another great reason to do your cleanse in the spring, more availability of fresh locally grown produce. *
Avoid Wheat, Red Meat, Caffeine, Dairy, Sugar, and Alcohol.Drink of choice Hot water with lemon with every meal preferably several minutes before you start eating.
It is recommended to continue the above mentioned routine for two ten day periods with a three day break in between. I would recommend starting with one seven day Flush. Notice how your body is feeling, and if you are feeling strong continue on, if not, wait a few weeks and enjoy the experience again! Eventually bringing yourself to do the month long journey.
What could come up: In Traditional Chinese Medicine, The liver is the seat of anger, meaning that; when we suppress anger throughout the years of our lives, it is stored in the tissues of the liver. When we detoxify the liver, there becomes more space in the body to address emotional toxicity. You may expect feelings ranging from unexplained and a little uncomfortable to extreme bouts of rage. This depends on how much you’re holding. Make sure before you begin that you are in a safe place in your relationships at home and at work. Let the people around you know what you are doing, so that they can practice being a little more spacious with you for this period of time, and can be supportive to you should any intense emotions come up.
Further: You may want to assist your liver further with the herbs Turmeric and milk Thistle, the anti-oxidant supplements Vitamins C and E and of course as much good clean filtered or spring water as possible.
